Where We Stand

We request that the Portsmouth City Council deny the proposed development
known as Hull’s Creek. This
development is in direct opposition to the publicly
expressed wishes of a clear majority of the residents and
businesses in the area.
Although our concerns are many, they include:

• Additional loss of increasingly rare green space in the City – which goes against the Council’s Bold
Leadership Vision 2008, which promises “excellent schools, public facilities (and) green spaces.”

• Serious unresolved environmental and health issues – because the site was once an unregulated
municipal landfill, then filled with dredged mud and not properly closed and monitored.

• Increased flooding conditions on the site and in nearby neighborhoods - the City’s own documents
list the site as a repetitive loss floodplain area that should not be built upon.

• Negative home value impact. More than 50 homes sit idly for sale in Port Norfolk and Lake Shores
now and additional homes will only make the situation worse.

We ask City Council to use this opportunity to create the thriving community
we all want by converting the area
into a neighborhood park and multi-use
recreational area that all City residents are welcome to enjoy.
